Are you looking for a second opinion from a Sydney dentist?
Every day we get enquiries from people looking to get a second opinion on their dental concerns. Most of the time the person has seen another dentist for a larger treatment consultation and hasn’t been sure what was advised is really the best option for the best price.
At Hooper Dentistry in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs we take a different approach to second opinion dental appointments.
When you visit us for a secondary opinion on your dental concern, we ask you not to tell us the opinion and quote given by your dentist. Don’t get us wrong, we want to know what is wrong and what you were unhappy about with their treatment plan, but we don’t want their opinions impacting ours.
When you visit Gerry or Joe Hooper at Hooper Tooth Conserving Dentistry in Rose Bay (in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs) we promise to only advise on work you need or want. We will never tell you to have treatment that is in excess of what you need, or more advanced than what you need to make a profit. We practice minimally invasive, tooth conserving dentistry – our aim is to leave you with as much of your natural healthy smile and teeth as possible.
Why do we ask you to not tell us what the other dentist advised?
In the dental industry, just like in other industries, there are differing opinions of best practice. In some cases this is a result of different training and interests. In other cases this is based on historical or personal experience.
When we first look at your mouth we want to take an unbiased approach to diagnosing your issues and needs. By assessing your mouth with this approach we are paying attention to each and every tooth and not just those pointed out to us. This ensures we don’t miss any potential concerns or determine there is an issue based on assumptions.
We also don’t want to know what they quoted you
As a practice we refuse to compete on cost. When you attend Hooper Tooth Conserving Dentistry we apply all of our skills and knowledge to you as a patient. We will never compromise on quality or time spent on a patient due to a limited profit. It is for this reason we do not want to know how much the other dentist said it will cost – at least until after we have quoted you. This way you are reassured that we haven’t “pumped up” our prices to fit your budget.
How will you know what is wrong?
When you visit us for a second opinion we will conduct a comprehensive consultation and examination. We will inspect each tooth, your mouth as a whole, the soft tissues and structures within your mouth and your jaw alignment. We will also ask you a series of questions – we want to hear your opinion and feelings towards the issue. Once we have completed a thorough examination we will provide you with a treatment plan and quote. This will include all of your treatment options and our recommendations… But we will not force you into any particular treatment.
From this point, if you are happy with our recommendations and feel our practice is right for you, we invite you to book in for your treatment.
