What is minimally invasive dentistry?

Rather than remove and cut down the tooth’s structure, minimally invasive dentistry aims to build up and repair the tooth. By only removing the smallest amount of the damaged area, we can help your natural tooth structure stay intact making it less likely to require further repair down the track. Learn more.

How can I protect my teeth as I age?

Prevention is the best method of protecting teeth. We generally recommend check-ups twice a year, brushing twice a day and flossing. Eating a healthy diet is also known to contribute to not only your overall health but your oral health as well.

What are composite veneers?

Composite veneers are a thin layer of resin that is bonded to the teeth. They offer a cosmetic fix for those who feel as if their smile is a little misplaced, misshaped or discoloured. Composite veneers can help with the following:

  • Crowded teeth
  • Spacing between teeth
  • Crooked teeth
  • Discoloured or permanently stained teeth
  • Broken or chipped teeth

Veneers can improve the alignment of teeth, but they cannot affect the jaw alignment or bite problems. Composite veneers offer a purely cosmetic resolution without the loss of too much enamel. Learn more.

Myself or my child is afraid of the dentist, what should I do?

Dental anxiety and dentophobia is a relatively common problem for patients. Here at Hooper Tooth Conserving Dentistry we do our best to help patients feel comfortable about their treatment and offer multiple anaesthesia options for those after a completely pain free alternative.  When you contact us about your treatment, ensure you let us know about any anxiety problems so we can ensure we take extra care for your visit.

How long does it take for Invisalign to straighten my teeth?

Depending on your treatment needs, Invisalign can take from 12-24 months. This is to stop the teeth from just shifting back into their natural position and it is important that you ensure you are following our precise instructions about your plan so not to prolong the treatment further.

What are onlays?

Onlays are a larger version of a filing – created to fill a deeper cavity. By choosing an onlay rather than a crown, you are able to preserve more of your natural tooth and create a strong structural hold to ensure if future treatment is required; your natural tooth will likely remain intact.

What does my gum health have to do with my overall health?

Ensuring you eat well, practice healthy hygiene habits and attend the dentist twice a year, your gums should be strong and resilient. However if you find that your gums have been tender or bleeding, your overall health can suffer. Learn more.

How long will my treatment take?

Each individual patient’s case can differ in time. During your regular check-up or initial consultation feel free to discuss any concerns you may have about any treatments you are considering.
